A brief background of The Hand Made Food Co

Leaving Australia to do the “right of passage” stint overseas and travelling around Europe, North Africa and South America our owners picked up a love of good food. With an already ingrained passion for food manufacturing and whilst traveling through Italy, eating the simply stunning sandwiches made with the great produce that the Italians are famous for, an idea was born.

With humble beginnings in 2004 Lunchbox Solutions have, over the years, grown from our first customer (who is still with us) to expand our reach throughout Australia.

What you get when you combine passionate owners, a world class team including well respected food industry experts and the winner of the Worlds’ Best Sandwich competition is a team dedicated to making (and tasting) memorable food.

Memorable food starts with using the best and freshest local ingredients to produce a range of products from the humble Ham & Cheese Toastie to Chicken Fajita wraps with lime & coriander. We like to make our secret ingredients in house from scratch!

Having gained knowledge through years of experience and with an ever increasing love for food we felt the time was right to re-name ourselves in 2016 as The Handmade Food Co creating Good Honest Food.

We have developed three different ranges for you: Reload our Microwavable and hot to go products; our refreshed Every Day Café range and Wiches&Mor our premium artisan range.

We continue our love of travelling the world finding new recipes, inspiration and knowledge to bring inspired food to Australia.

The next Evolution…

Since humble beginnings in 2004 Lunchbox Solutions has over the years grown from our first customer (who is still with us) to expand our reach throughout Australia.

Having gained knowledge through years of experience and with an ever increasing love for food we felt the time was right to re-name ourselves as The Handmade Food Co, creating Good Honest Food.

Tom Allen joined our Management team last year bringing with him a wealth of sandwich knowledge and experience having worked as Executive Chef for Greencore UK, the world’s largest sandwich manufacturer as well as holding the “Worlds’ Best Sandwich” designer title. He has worked with Marks & Spencer's, Pret, Eat, Dr Oetker and Paris Baguette to name but a few.

Over the last six months Tom has been working on an entirely new range of premium products and refreshing some of our existing favourites. Great food starts with using the best and freshest ingredients and drawing on world inspired flavours as well as traditional favourites. We now cook many of our sauces in our kitchen from scratch so we can deliver authentic flavours and cleaner labelling.

Why Frozen?

What does Freezing mean to us…?

Natural and traditional processes are often the best!....

Natural food freezing (using winter frosts) has been in use by tribes in cold climates for centuries.  By 1885 a small number of chicken and geese were being shipped from Russia to London in insulated freezing cases. By March 1899, the "British Refrigeration and Allied Interests" reported that some 200,000 frozen geese and chickens per week were being shipped from three Russian depots to London over three or four winter months.

From 1929, Clarence Birdseye introduced "flash freezing" to the American public after he saw the natives use natural freezing to preserve foods during a fur-trapping expedition.

To become a national supplier of food in Australia is a challenge for all food manufacturers. We need to create products that will travel 4000km and still look and taste great!

With bread being a key ingredient to our products and being a living component, we needed to extend its life and the best way to do this is through freezing. Having established that freezing products was possible and was the key to our distribution challenges, this opened up a whole new view to manufacturing.

-9.5° (-15 °F)

We are able to create clean declaration products reducing preservatives needed in our ingredients for their shelf life because micro organisms do not grow when the temperature of the food is below −9.5 °C (15 °F), which is sufficient on its own in preventing food spoilage.

We make our own chutneys and dressings to deliver the great flavours you would expect from a homemade sandwich

Basically we only use kitchen cupboard ingredients to make
